Independent by Choice. Local by Commitment.
Why am I running as an indepedent?
I'm running as an independent candidate in New Westminster because it lets me focus on potholes, housing, parks and anything else instead of party slogans and political drama. As an independent, I don’t have to memorize a party platform or pretend I suddenly care about debates happening hundreds of kilometres away; I can just care about the city itself. Want to talk about transit, development, or whether that one intersection is confusing for everyone? Great, that’s my whole job. Independence also means I can work with anyone on council who has a good idea, regardless of labels, which is refreshing in a world where politics sometimes feels like a team sport. Plus, when residents ask what party I represent, I can honestly say, “The one that lives here.” 😄
I’m not a career politician. I’m just someone who loves this city, shows up for it every day, and thinks New West deserves leadership that’s grounded, transparent, and maybe even a little fun.
Who am I?
I'm a Sports Parent
My wife and I are parents of a lacrosse player, which means our schedule revolves around practices, games, and trying not to miss puck drop… or in this case, BALL drop. If you’ve ever been to a Salmonbellies game, you know New West doesn’t just watch lacrosse, we live it. That sense of teamwork and community pride is something I want to see reflected in how our city is run.
I'm a Small Business Owner
I run a home-based business in Sapperton, which means I understand the juggle: work, family, rising costs, and the fine art of muting yourself on Zoom at exactly the right moment. I know how city decisions affect people working from home, from zoning and permits to transit, childcare, and reliable services that actually support modern work life.
I'm a Beer Slinger
I also happen to work at Steel & Oak Brewing, which has taught me two important things: local businesses are the backbone of our community, and nothing brings people together like good conversation, sometimes over a beer. I see every day how much New Westminster values connection, creativity, and supporting local.
I'm a Volunteer
I’ve volunteered with KidSport New West and PechaKucha New West because both let me give back to the community in meaningful ways. With KidSport, I helped make sports more accessible for local kids. With PechaKucha, I help put together an event that lets neighbours meet neighbours; and helps give them a voice.
Testimonials
I’ve always known Martin to act with honesty, integrity, and a genuine desire to bring people together to make our community a great place to live. As a local resident, a small business owner, and an active community volunteer, Martin knows the issues our city is facing. As an independent candidate, Martin will be someone who listens carefully, asks questions, and works to represent everyone—not just one political party or point of view. And the best part is that Martin is just a really great guy and lots of fun to be around, which is refreshing in a political candidate.
